Hello – I’m Dave, the photographer behind DLJ Photography

By day, I work at the local airport. But whenever I can, you’ll find me out with my camera, chasing the light across the Vale of Glamorgan – or wherever the road leads. I’ve been a graphic designer for over 40 years, which gave me a strong grounding in composition, colour and detail. These days, photography is where I pour all that creative energy.

I’m a landscape photographer at heart. There’s something quietly magical about standing alone on a cliff or in a field, watching the sky change, waiting for that one fleeting moment when everything comes together. That’s what I love to capture – the mood, the light, the story of a place in a single frame. The Vale of Glamorgan is home, and it’s a brilliant place to photograph – dramatic coastlines, rolling farmland, endless skies. But I’m always keen to explore new landscapes too, from the UK and beyond.

Alongside landscapes, I also shoot sport, portraits, and increasingly, travel photography. Sports photography is fast, physical, full of adrenaline – the complete opposite of waiting for the light on a headland, and I love that contrast. Portraits are a growing passion, and from 2026 I’ll be offering outdoor portrait sessions – relaxed, natural shoots set in open-air locations, perfect for those who want something a little more personal and rooted in the landscape. When it comes to travel, I like to keep things light – my Lumix GH5 is ideal for capturing those fleeting moments and new surroundings without the bulk. Whether it’s a city street or a mountain pass, there’s always something worth noticing.

Guided Photo Walks – Coming in 2026

Starting in 2026, I’ll be offering guided photo walks – something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

Some will be local rambles through the familiar paths of the Vale of Glamorgan – relaxed outings where we slow down, breathe in the sea air, and look more closely at what’s right on our doorstep. Others will take us further afield – across the UK, into Europe, and who knows where else.

I’m especially keen to discover more parts of the world through the lens – new landscapes, new light, new stories. And more importantly, to share that journey with others who love photography and the outdoors. Whether it’s the soft morning mist of a Tuscan hillside, the wild drama of a Scottish loch, or a quiet harbour in Portugal at dusk – the joy is in exploring together, cameras in hand.

These aren’t technical workshops or bootcamps. They’re about being out in the world, seeing it differently, and connecting with both place and people. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been at it for years, all are welcome.

So whether you’d like to join a gentle stroll close to home or fancy a bit of an adventure further afield, I’d love to hear from you.

And if you ever spot me out and about with my Canon EOS R (or the little GH5), feel free to stop and say hello – I’m always up for a chat.

I have been fascinated by the beauty of the world and the way that photography can capture it.
