A person standing in a golden wheat field near a coastal landscape with a lighthouse and ocean in the background under a blue sky.

Hi, I'm Dave.

I'm a landscape and travel photographer based in Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, and this stretch of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast is where most of my work begins.

I've lived in the Vale most of my life. Before photography took over, I spent 40 years in the printing and graphic design trade, followed by a spell in airport security at Cardiff Airport. Then one day I picked up a camera again, and that turned out to be the most expensive decision I've ever made. Once photography gets under your skin, there's no cure.

These days my camera bag never really gets unpacked. It sits by the door, ready for whenever the light looks like it might do something interesting.

I've lost count of the evenings I've stood on those cliffs waiting for the light to do something special. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. I've watched sunsets vanish behind cloud, driven home with nothing to show for hours of waiting, and got thoroughly soaked because a forecast promised a "light breeze." Whoever writes those forecasts has clearly never stood on a Welsh cliff.

This website isn't only about the photographs, though. It's about what comes with them: the places, the people, the wrong turns, the coffee stops, and the stories that start with "you're not going to believe what happened" rather than "everything went exactly to plan."

What's next

Over the next few years I'll be travelling further afield: Australia, Britain's canals, Scotland, Europe, and eventually South East Asia and South America. My bucket list is still longer than my passport stamps.

I'd also like to start running small photography adventures to some of the places you'll read about here. Not big commercial tours, no standing in a line with fifty photographers taking the same shot, just a handful of people who enjoy travelling, photography and a laugh, exploring places that don't always make the guidebooks. It's still an early idea, but if it sounds like your kind of thing, I'd love to hear from you.

Get in touch

If you'd like to chat about photography, ask a question, arrange a photo walk, enquire about a print, or tell me about somewhere I should explore next, drop me a message. And if one of my photographs ends up on your wall, I'll be genuinely delighted.

You'll probably spot me having a pint in one of the pubs along the coast too. If you do, come and say hi.

One last thing: if I ever tell you "I know a shortcut," don't say I didn't warn you. We'll probably end up somewhere completely different. Then again, that's usually where the best photographs are waiting.
